-
- Presentation speakers
This is the first of three courses for students of Lakota as a second language on the pre-intermediate level. The course will introduce the students to both spoken and written Lakota, and it will help them practice all language skills: speaking, listening comprehension, reading and writing. Among other aspects of the language students will learn how to express the Lakota counterparts of the English verbs “be, do, act, decide, ask, think, want” etc. Students will also learn how to express purpose, reason, result and contrast. We will also learn how to express continuation of an action using the suffix –hAŋ as well as the verbs khuwá, aú, škáŋ, yaŋkÁ, ȟpáyA and máni. The course will offer a comprehensive review of coordinating and subordinating conjunctions. All structural and lexical items will be introduced within the context of everyday conversational topics.
