-
- Presentation speakers
A linguistic understanding of Lakota is essential to teaching the language knowledgably and being an effective teacher in the classroom. Quality teaching of Lakota is dependent on a firm foundation in the structural rules of a language. This course is the primary linguistic introduction to Lakota grammar, its inflectional and derivational morphology (the internal structure of words) and syntax. An integral part of the course is also an introduction to the pedagogical approaches to explaining this grammar. The rules associated with Lakota verbal morphology and syntax are some of the most characteristic features of the language are also a significant challenge for students.
