The 11th annual Lakota Summer Institute runs from June 5 to June 30, 2017.
The Lakota Summer Institute is four weeks of exploring how the Lakota/Dakota language and switching your mindset to “Lakota thinking”.
This joint venture of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, Sitting Bull College and the Lakota Language Consortium is a unique community event that supports both professional teachers and learners of the language.
It began in 2007 as a teacher training course, and has since equipped over 300 teachers with the best methods for teaching second language in the classroom.
It now offers courses for all language levels, from beginners to intermediate to advanced. Students can take classes in language, culture, sound systems, grammar, teaching methodology, narrative recordings and more.
Feedback from the Lakota Summer Institute is always exceptional. Teachers leave empowered with new ideas for the classroom that will improve children’s language acquisition and raise test scores. Learners leave with a deep and lasting understanding of the language, and a movement of like-minded people to support them.
All courses can be taken for college credit that can count towards a variety of certificates and degrees.
